Starting Lineup

Lavagnino · Lomónaco · Closter · De Irastorza · Pinto · Parmo · Tarzia · Millán · Medina · Abaldo · Duarte

Independiente aims to control the game through a balanced and vertical style of play. The team uses a 4-4-2 formation that relies on strong bank of four movements to maintain control. This lineup is built to stay compact and win the ball back quickly once possession is lost.

Lavagnino guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line operates as a flat back four to maintain a consistent line. Pinto plays as the right back to provide stability while De Irastorza acts as the left back. In the center, Lomónaco and Closter work as the central defensive pair to defend zonally and cover space. They must communicate well to set the offside trap and ensure they do not get caught out by long balls.

The midfield is a central engine designed to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch. Medina acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Beside him, Duarte and Millán occupy the central roles to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Parmo operates within this unit to help press aggressively and win the second ball. This group works to intercept passes and ensure the team stays compact when defending in a mid-block.

The attacking unit relies on two forwards to stretch the defence. Tarzia and Abaldo lead the line as a striking partnership. They look to combine in tight spaces and make runs in behind the opposition defense. Tarzia often holds up the ball to allow Abaldo to arrive late into the box. When the team wins the ball high up the pitch, they look to hit in behind on the transition to catch the opponent off guard.

Independiente gains a clear advantage through its ability to press in a mid-block to force a long ball from the opposition. The numerical presence in the central midfield allows them to dominate the middle third. This formation also provides the speed of transition needed to move from a defensive stance to a direct attack very quickly.

This 4-4-2 formation offers Independiente a way to be both defensively solid and lethal on the break. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play through a compact midfield.
