Vélez aims to dominate the pitch through heavy central presence and high numbers in the middle, utilizing a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup focuses on controlling the ball and pinning the opposition deep in their own half. Busso starts between the posts to organize the defense. The back line consists of a narrow two man unit with Silvero and Gordon acting as the primary central defenders. These two must be prepared to step up to manage a high line and cover the space behind them when the team pushes forward. Because there are only two defenders, they must stay compact and focus on winning headers or intercepting direct balls.

The midfield is a crowded engine room that connects the defense to the attack. Andrada, playing as a deep lying playmaker, works alongside Dominguez in a double pivot to shield the two defenders. Andrada also operates in the central midfield to help recycle possession and move the ball forward. Arias and Cabral occupy the half spaces as attacking midfielders, providing width and looking to arrive late into the box. This five man midfield creates a massive block that makes it very hard for the opponent to play through the middle.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the opposition. Godoy acts as the pressing centre forward to force a long ball from the opponent. Verón and Carrizo operate as wide wingers, often looking to cut inside and find the feet of the striker. The goal is to create combinations in tight spaces and use the wide players to pull the defense apart. This attacking setup relies on quick passes to break the line and exploit any gaps left by the opposition.

One major advantage for Vélez is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows them to dominate possession and squeeze the space. The presence of five players in the middle means they can easily win the ball back high up the pitch. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Arias and Cabral push forward to support the wingers.
