Starting Lineup

Zabarnyi · Pacho · Marquinhos · Hakimi · N. Mendes · F. Ruiz · Vitinha · G. Ramos · Kvaratskhelia · Dembélé · Safonov

PSG prefers to win the ball high up the pitch and use quick transitions to punish opponents, playing a high intensity 3-4-3. This lineup is designed to control large areas of the pitch by using wide players to stretch the defence while maintaining a strong presence in the central zones.

Safonov stays between the posts to start the build up. The defensive unit operates with a back three where Marquinhos acts as the leader to organize the line. Pacho plays as the left centre back to cover space, while Zabarnyi sits as the right centre back to win the header and provide physical presence. Marquinhos often steps into midfield to help progress the ball, and the unit works to set the offside trap to keep the team high.

In the middle of the pitch, PSG uses a two man midfield to control the tempo. Vitinha plays as a deep lying playmaker with a wide passing range to find teammates, while F. Ruiz acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball. These two connect the defence to the attack by recycling possession and finding ways to break the line. N. Mendes and Hakimi act as wing backs to provide the necessary width. Hakimi pushes high to overlap the winger, and N. Mendes tracks back to defend when the team loses the ball.

The attacking front three focuses on creating chaos in the final third. Kvaratskhelia operates as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create chances, while Dembélé stays wide on the right to use his dribbling style to beat his man. G. Ramos acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and act as a target man for crosses. This front line works to press the opposition back line and create runs in behind through quick combinations.

One major advantage for PSG is the ability to create wide overloads when Hakimi and N. Mendes push up to support the wingers. The team also benefits from the speed of transition, using the dribbling of Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia to exploit space quickly. This formation allows for a heavy press in coordinated waves to win the ball back close to the opponent goal.

The 3-4-3 formation provides a balance of defensive solidity and attacking width. This lineup is best suited for matches where the team needs to dominate possession and pin the opponent in their own half.
