The defensive unit works to stay compact, with the back three prepared to squeeze the space or drop into a low block if forced back.

The midfield functions as a box with two central players and two wide players. Damián and Ilaix occupy the central roles to control the middle, with Damián acting to shield the defence while Ilaix looks to carry the ball forward. Rueda and Mingueza provide the necessary width, operating as wing backs who must track back to help the defence and then push high to support the attack. This midfield unit connects the defensive line to the front three by recycling possession and playing through the lines.

Celta deploy three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. Jutglá acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and provide a central presence. Bryan and Aspas play as wide attackers, with Bryan looking to cut inside to create chances and Aspas using his vision and passing range to manipulate the defence.
