Starting Lineup

Jørgensen · Tosin · Acheampong · Hato · Gusto · Santos · Buonanotte · Guiu · Garnacho · Gittens · Caicedo

Chelsea works to control the center and disrupt the opponent with a 4-5-1 formation. The team relies on a high press to win the ball high up the pitch and create chances quickly through direct movement. This lineup is built to squeeze the space and force the opposition to play long or give up possession in dangerous areas.

Jørgensen stays in goal to command the area and organize the defenders. The defense uses a flat back four that can step up to set the offside trap. Gusto pushes forward as an attacking full back to provide width on the right, while Hato covers the left side to prevent crosses. Tosin and Acheampong defend zonally in the center of the defense. Tosin uses his aerial strength to win the header during set pieces, while Acheampong focuses on intercepting passes and staying compact to protect the line.

The midfield consists of a dense five man block to control the center of the pitch. Caicedo and Santos operate as a double pivot to shield the defense. Caicedo uses his passing range to recycle possession and move the ball from deep, while Santos works to win the second ball and provide cover. Garnacho and Gittens act as the wide central midfielders to press aggressively in a mid block. Buonanotte plays as the central link between the defensive and attacking lines to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box.

Guiu acts as a lone striker who must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to join the attack. Because the team uses a single striker, Garnacho and Gittens must push up to support him in the final third. Garnacho uses his dribbling to cut inside and create space, while Gittens looks to carry the ball forward and get to the byline. The team looks to hit in behind on the transition or use quick combinations to break the line.

This formation offers great numerical superiority in midfield to dominate the middle of the park. It also provides a very compact unit when defending, which makes it hard for opponents to find gaps. The ability to win the ball back high up the pitch allows Chelsea to break quickly and counter at pace.

This 4-5-1 formation is designed to dominate the central areas and frustrate opponents. It is best suited for matches against teams that rely on heavy possession and try to play through the lines.
