Starting Lineup

Cobreloa looks to play a direct and vertical style of football using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on heavy defensive numbers to absorb pressure before hitting the opposition quickly in transition. The goal is to remain compact while waiting for the right moment to exploit space behind the opponent's back line.

Wirth guards the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit operates in a back five with Alarcón sitting in the middle to command the area. Soto acts as the right centre back while Gómez covers the left side of the central trio. Tabilo and Escobar operate as attacking wing backs to provide the necessary width. Tabilo pushes high to overlap on the right while Escobar provides similar energy on the left. The central defenders look to win the second ball and clear the lines when under heavy pressure to maintain a solid block.

The midfield consists of a double pivot with Merello and Puebla working to control the center of the pitch. Merello sits deeper to shield the defense and recycle possession when the team needs to slow the tempo. Puebla acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive unit to the attacking front three. These two midfielders must work hard to squeeze the space in the center and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines. Their job is to win the ball back and immediately find the forwards to start a break.

Cobreloa utilizes three attackers to stretch the defense. Galaz leads the line as a pressing centre forward who works to pin the last defender. On the wings, Siviero and Letelier act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to pull the opposition defenders out of position. Siviero looks to cut inside to create chances while Letelier uses pace to run in behind. The team attacks in combinations, often looking for Letelier or Siviero to receive a pass and drive toward the box to deliver a cross.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages including compactness when defending in a low block. The presence of five defenders makes it very hard for opponents to find space in the box. Additionally, Cobreloa can create wide overloads when Tabilo and Escobar push up to support the wingers. This setup allows the team to transition from a deep block to a heavy attack in seconds.
