Selangor Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Kalamullah · Abualnadi · Richmond Ankrah · Harith Haiqal · Nooa Laine · Zach Clough · Al-Rawabdeh · Alvin Fortes · Faisal Halim · Chrigor Moraes · Picha AutraSelangor aims to play a direct and reactive style of football using a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to stay compact in the middle and look to break quickly once the ball is won. The team relies on staying disciplined and using the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition when they transition from defense to attack.
Kalamullah stays on his line to command the area. In front of him, a flat back four works to hold the line. Richmond Ankrah and Nooa Laine operate as the two central defenders, where Richmond Ankrah covers space while Nooa Laine focuses on winning the second ball. Abualnadi plays as the left back to provide cover on the flank, while Harith Haiqal acts as the right back to help secure the wide areas. The defensive unit works together to squeeze the space and force the opposition into wide areas.
The midfield operates as a five man unit to control the center of the pitch. Al-Rawabdeh and Picha Autra form a double pivot to shield the defense and win possession. Faisal Halim and Alvin Fortes play in the half spaces to connect the lines, with Faisal Halim often looking to drive forward with the ball. Zach Clough plays as the attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and play through the lines. This group works to recycle possession and protect the central zone when out of possession.
Selangor uses a lone striker in Chrigor Moraes to lead the line. Chrigor Moraes acts as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition back line and hold up the ball for others. The wide players like Faisal Halim and Alvin Fortes must tuck in to maintain a compact shape, but they also look to expand the pitch during transitions. The goal is to create runs in behind or find Chrigor Moraes with direct passes to isolate him against a single defender.
One major advantage for Selangor is the ability to press in a mid-block, making it very difficult for opponents to pass through the middle. The double pivot of Al-Rawabdeh and Picha Autra provides a solid base that allows Zach Clough to push higher. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the team can move the ball from the back four to the front line in a matter of seconds to catch the opponent out of position.
This 4-5-1 formation provides a resilient defensive platform that is hard to break down. It is best suited for matches against dominant teams where Selangor needs to sit deep and strike on the break.
