Leganés Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Conde · Andarz ([Cdz&U21]) · Saenz · Gonzalez · Franquesa · Undabarrena · Cisse ([Cdz]) · Naim Garcia · Mirzaev ([Cdz/U21]) · Cruz · CvetkovicLeganés operates with a vertical identity focused on direct play through a 4-2-4. This formation is built to exploit spaces in transition and overwhelm the opposition with numbers in the final third. The team looks to move the ball quickly from the defensive unit to the frontline to catch opponents before they can settle into a defensive block.
Conde starts in goal to organize the defensive line. The back four consists of Andarz at right back and Franquesa at left back, while Saenz and Gonzalez act as the central defenders. Saenz and Gonzalez work as a pair to defend zonally and protect the middle of the box. Andarz and Franquesa are tasked with providing width and can push forward to support the attack, but they must track back quickly to cover the space left behind. The unit aims to hold the line and keep the distance between the defenders and the midfield compact.
The midfield functions as a double pivot with Undabarrena and Cisse occupying the central roles. These two players work to shield the back four and provide a link between the defense and the four attackers. Undabarrena and Cisse must win the second ball and recycle possession to keep the pressure on. They are responsible for pressing in a mid-block to disrupt the opponent and intercept passes before they reach the attacking line. This duo also needs to be ready to carry the ball forward when the opposition sits deep.
The attacking unit uses two forwards in a partnership with Cruz and Naim Garcia playing wide. Cruz operates as a left winger while Naim Garcia occupies the right flank to stretch the defense. Mirzaev and Cvetkovic play as the two central forwards to pin the last defender and provide a presence in the box. The wingers often cut inside to create space for the full backs or to find shooting lanes. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and create chances through quick combinations and runs in behind.
Leganés gains a significant advantage through the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the wingers. The formation also offers the speed of transition needed to hit teams on the break with four dedicated attackers. By using a double pivot, the team maintains some stability in the center while still maintaining a heavy presence in the attacking third.
This 4-2-4 formation is built for high intensity and quick offensive transitions. It is best suited for games where the team needs to hunt for goals against a side that plays a high line.
