Armani stays between the posts to command his area. The defensive unit consists of a narrow back two with Pezzella and Martínez Quarta acting as the primary central defenders. Both Pezzella and Martínez Quarta must be ready to step up to manage the high line or drop to cover space behind them. Because the formation uses only two central defenders, they must be dominant in the air and quick to intercept passes to prevent long balls from bypassing the midfield.

The midfield is the engine of this River formation, operating as a five man block to dominate the center. Acuña and Montiel act as a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Ahead of them, Galoppo and Castaño operate in the half spaces to drive forward with the ball and connect the lines. Meza plays as the attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and create chances. This crowded midfield allows the team to press in a mid-block or squeeze the space to force errors from the opposition.

In the attacking third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defense. Colidio and Salas act as wide wingers, with Colidio cutting inside from the left and Salas looking to pull wide to create space. Driussi leads the line as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of the runners. The movement of the front three is designed to create runs in behind and allow the midfielders to arrive late into the box.
