Starting Lineup

Parma plays with a very direct and attacking identity using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to play with great verticality and high intensity. On the flanks, Thuram plays as an attacking full back on the right to help the offense, while Benarrivo provides cover on the left. They work to keep a high line to squeeze the space in the middle.

The midfield is a double pivot made up of Dino Baggio and Oslo. Dino Baggio acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward and link the defense to the front four. Oslo stays more central to shield the defense and win the second ball when possession is lost. Because there are only two players in the middle, they must press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. They focus on playing short from the back to build in triangles before looking to break the lines.

In the attacking third, the team uses two strikers and two wide players. Brolin and Crespo lead the line as a central duo, with Crespo looking to link up with Brolin or run in behind. Zola operates as an inverted winger on the right, looking to cut inside and create. Crippia stays wider on the left to pull the defenders out of position and stretch the defense. The goal is to use combinations in tight spaces to create chances for the strikers.

The main advantage for Parma is the ability to create wide overloads and numerical superiority in the attacking third. Having four players in the front line makes it very difficult for the opposition to defend against multiple runs. The speed of transition is another strength, as the team can move from a defensive block to an attacking wave very quickly.
