Pizarro acts as a deep lying playmaker to recycle possession and find the wide players. Menegotti is the carrier who drives forward with the ball to connect the defense to the front four. They must work hard to protect the center and prevent the opponent from playing through the lines.

The attack is incredibly potent with four players across the front. Zico operates on the left as an inverted winger who uses his passing range to unlock defenses. Alexis Sánchez plays on the right, using his pace and dribbling to stretch the defense. Di Natale and Bierhoff form a dual striker partnership in the middle. Bierhoff uses his aerial strength to win headers and hold up the ball, while Di Natale looks to play off him and make runs in behind.

Such numbers in the final third allow Udinese to hit in behind on the transition. The presence of Zico and Alexis Sánchez allows the team to isolate wide players in one on one situations. Furthermore, the team can create immediate pressure by pressing from the front with four dedicated attackers. This forces the opposition to play long and can lead to many second ball opportunities for the midfield.
