In front of them, Scifo and Jurion occupy the central spaces to connect the lines, with Scifo using his passing range to progress through the thirds and find the feet of the striker. Rensenbrink occupies the left side of the midfield to provide width and help the team transition. This group allows Anderlecht to recycle possession and squeeze the space in the middle.

Van Himst operates as a lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. He works to find pockets of space to receive the ball on the half-turn and lay it off to the midfielders. The attacking movement depends on Jurion and Rensenbrink to make runs into the box to support him. When the team moves forward, they look to spread wide and use the half-spaces to create combinations or deliver a cross on the run to catch the defense out of position.
