Chevalier (Maignan/Samba) · Kounde (Pavard) · Upamecano (Saliba) · Konaté (Lucas) · Theo (Digne) · Tchouameni (Koné/Kanté) · Rabiot (Camavinga) · Mbappé (Barcola/Coman) · Dembélé (Marcus/Ekitiké) · Olise (Doué) · Khepren (Pogba)France plays with high intensity and verticality in a 4-3-3. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and break quickly. The team looks to use speed to punish opponents that leave space behind their defensive line.
Chevalier guards the goal for Les Bleus. The back four uses Kounde at right back and Theo at left back. Theo often pushes high to provide width and overlap the winger. In the center, Upamecano and Konaté form the defensive pair. Upamecano uses his strength to win headers and cover space, while Konaté stays close to the line to set the offside trap. Kounde can tuck in to help the defence and cover for the attacking full back.
The midfield works with a single pivot to protect the centre. Tchouameni sits in front of the back four to shield the defence, intercept passes, and deny the pivot. Khepren acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward and press in the middle third. Rabiot connects the lines by dropping deep to receive and then making late runs into the box. This trio works to compress the midfield and win the second ball.
The attack uses three players to stretch the defence. Dembélé acts as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition. On the flanks, Olise and Mbappé provide constant threat. Mbappé uses his pace to cut inside from the left and run in behind. Olise can pull wide to create space or play through the lines to find the striker. The runs from Theo and Kounde create combinations that isolate wide players.
A key strength is the speed of transition. France can go direct and hit in behind on the transition as soon as the ball is won. They also create wide overloads because of the movement from the full backs. They can use the ability to press high in coordinated waves to force a long ball and then regain possession.
This 4-3-3 is built on high pressing and verticality. It works best against opponents that struggle to play short from the back.
