Valencia plays with a high pressing and vertical identity through a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and quickly progress the play to catch opponents out of position. The goal is to use intensity to disrupt the opposition and create chances through direct movement.

Julen Aguirrezabala acts as the goalkeeper to command the area. The defensive unit functions as a flat back four with Gayá and Foulquier on the flanks. Gayá pushes up as an attacking full back to provide width while Foulquier offers support to balance the defensive line. In the center, César Tárrega and Diakhaby work together to defend zonally and win the header in aerial duels. They aim to hold a high line to squeeze the space and keep the team compact, while also being ready to cover for the wide players.

The midfield consists of two banks of four designed to cover the central areas. Javi Guerra and Bautista Santamaría occupy the center, where Guerra looks to carry the ball forward and play through the lines. Santamaría works to shield the defense and recycle possession to connect the defensive and attacking lines. On the wings, Diego Mopez and Luis Rioja provide the width. Both players press in pairs to win the ball high and ensure the midfield remains difficult to bypass.

Valencia uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the attack. Danjuma and Hugo Duro work together to press the opposition back line constantly. While Danjuma moves into the half spaces to find pockets of room, Hugo Duro acts as a pressing centre forward to lead the hunt. The attack relies on the wingers to spread wide and deliver crosses or cut back the ball. This creates runs in behind for the two strikers to exploit during transitions.

This formation offers the advantage of being able to press high in coordinated waves. By having two strikers, Valencia can pin the last defender and force a long ball from the opposition. The team also benefits from the compactness when defending in a mid-block, making it very hard for the opponent to find space between the lines or progress through the thirds.

This 4-4-2 lineup is built on high intensity and directness. It is best suited for facing teams that try to play out from the back and leave space behind their defensive line.
