Morocco seeks to play a vertical style of football that relies on quick transitions through a 5-2-3. This lineup focuses on defensive stability and winning the ball to launch direct attacks. The midfield consists of a double pivot featuring Bouderbala and Hadji. Bouderbala focuses on shielding the defence and winning the second ball in the middle of the pitch. The team relies on the wing backs, Hakimi and El Hadrioui, to overlap the wingers and provide width. This movement creates chances to hit in behind the defence or deliver early crosses into the box during a rapid break.

A major advantage of this formation is the defensive compactness when the team sits deep. The five defenders make it difficult for the opposition to find gaps between the lines.
