Arsenal Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Saka · Eze · Trossard · Gyokeres · Rice · Zubimendi · Timber · Mosquera · Gabriel · Calafiori · RayaArsenal focuses on a heavy vertical game and high pressure using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup aims to stretch the pitch and overwhelm the opposition with numbers in the final third. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately look to hit the defense before they can get into position.
Raya starts in goal to sweep behind a high line. The back four works as a zonal line where Timber acts as a full back on the right to provide width. Calafiori plays at left back and can tuck inside to help the central defenders. Gabriel and Mosquera form the central pairing, with Gabriel providing aerial strength and Mosquera acting as a covering defender. This unit stays compact to squeeze the space between the lines.
The midfield relies on a double pivot to link the defense and the attack. Zubimendi acts as a deep lying playmaker who tries to recycle possession and find the right pass. Alongside him, Rice plays as a carrier who can drive forward with the ball and press aggressively to win it back. This pair must be disciplined to protect the central area when the team loses the ball.
In the attacking phase, Arsenal uses two central forwards in a partnership. Eze plays as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition defenders while Gyokeres acts as a target man to hold up the ball and win the second ball. The wide players, Trossard on the left and Saka on the right, act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create chances. This creates a lot of movement with Saka often looking to isolate a one on one on the flank or arrive late into the box.
This 4-2-4 formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to press high in coordinated waves. By keeping four players high, the team can pin the last defender and force a long ball from the opposition. The double pivot of Rice and Zubimendi also allows for quick transitions, using the speed of the front four to break quickly.
Arsenal utilizes this heavy attacking lineup to pin opponents back and dominate territory. This formation is best suited for games where the team wants to overwhelm a low block through sheer numbers and verticality.
