Starting Lineup

Antiste · J. Auer · Bolla · Raux Yao · Cvetkovic · Seidl · Amane · Gulliksen · Tilio · Wurmbrand · Hedl

SK Rapid focuses on a heavy high press and rapid verticality, playing a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm opponents through sheer numbers in the final third. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and strike immediately before the opposition can settle into a defensive block.

Hedl stays between the posts to manage the space behind the defense. The back line consists of a narrow duo with Raux Yao and Cvetkovic acting as the central defenders. Because the formation only uses two players at the back, they must stay compact to prevent being split by through balls. Cvetkovic and Raux Yao often have to step up to intercept passes and manage the high line. They rely on quick recovery runs if the opponent manages to bypass the initial press.

The midfield functions as a central engine room with a double pivot of J. Auer and Bolla. J. Auer and Bolla work to shield the two defenders and win the second ball in the middle of the pitch. They act as the connection between the defensive unit and the attack. Ahead of them, Seidl and Amane operate in the half spaces. Seidl and Amane push high to support the front four, providing extra passing options and helping to squeeze the space in the middle.

The attack is composed of four players designed to pin the last defender and stretch the defense. Wurmbrand and Tilio act as wide players who provide width, while Gulliksen and Antiste operate as a partnership of two central forwards. Gulliksen and Antiste often work in combinations to find pockets of space or use their strength to hold up the ball. The wide players, Wurmbrand and Tilio, look to cut inside or cross to the central strikers. This front four stays aggressive to trigger a press from the front.

SK Rapid finds success by creating numerical superiority in the attacking zones. By committing many players forward, they can create wide overloads and overwhelm the opposition's defensive line. The ability to hit in behind on the transition is a major advantage when the ball is won high. This setup forces the opponent to defend in much smaller areas of the pitch.

This 2-4-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system centered on aggressive pressing. It is best suited for games where SK Rapid needs to dominate possession and force the opponent into mistakes through constant pressure.
