Dinamo Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Beljo · Lisica · Hoxha · Zajc · Ljubičić · Mišić · McKenna · Theophile · Valinčić · Goda · NevistićPrioritizing a heavy press and quick verticality, Dinamo utilizes a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and hit the opposition in transition. The team looks to squeeze the space in the middle while using wide areas to stretch the play.
Nevistić plays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line functions as a back three with Mišić acting as the central anchor to win the header and clear the lines. McKenna operates as the left centre back to cover space, while Theophile holds the right side of the central trio. Goda and Valinčić act as attacking wing backs, pushing high to provide width and support the attack. This defensive unit can drop into a low block or step up to trigger a press.
The midfield relies on a two-man central pairing to control the tempo. Ljubičić and Zajc work to occupy the central zones and win the second ball. Ljubičić often acts as the carrier to drive forward with the ball, while Zajc looks to recycle possession and connect the defensive line to the attackers. They must work hard to cover the ground between the two lines and prevent opponents from playing through the lines.
In the final third, Dinamo uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Beljo acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. On the flanks, Hoxha and Lisica play as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create chances. These attackers press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. The combination of wingers and a central striker allows for quick play in tight spaces and runs in behind.
This formation offers Dinamo significant advantages in transition. The wide wing backs allow for wide overloads when they overlap the winger, creating two on one situations. The presence of a back three provides compactness when defending, making it hard for opponents to find gaps. Having a three man front line allows the team to press in coordinated waves to win it back high up the pitch.
The 5-2-3 formation makes Dinamo a dangerous threat on the counter attack. This lineup is best suited for games against teams that play with a high defensive line.
