The wing backs, Verdonk on the left and Yakob on the right, provide width and must track back to form a five man line when the team sits deep.

The midfield functions as a central block with a double pivot. Klok and Haye occupy the central roles to control the tempo and shield the back three. Klok works to break the lines with his passing, while Haye connects the defense to the attackers. This pair must cover large spaces to prevent the opposition from playing through the center.

In the final third, Indonesia uses three attackers to stretch the opposition. Zijlstra leads the line as a lone striker to hold up the ball and bring others into play. Bekham operates from the left wing and Reijnders plays on the right, both looking to cut inside and create chances. This attacking front is designed to press the opposition defenders immediately upon losing possession.

One major advantage for Indonesia is the ability to create wide overloads when Verdonk and Yakob push forward to support the wingers.
