Starting Lineup

Seeking to be defensively solid and hard to break down, Atlético utilizes a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup focuses on absorbing pressure and using the space behind the opposition when they push high. The team aims to stay compact in the middle of the pitch to deny passing lanes before looking to transition quickly toward the goal.

SAHLAN stands between the posts to command the box. The defensive unit consists of three central defenders including FAUZAN, ICAN, and SAFWAN. FAUZAN acts as the central anchor while ICAN and SAFWAN cover the wider gaps within the back three. On the flanks, BUDIN and MADAN operate as wing backs. BUDIN pushes up to provide width on the right, while MADAN covers the left side to help the defense and provide crosses. The whole back line tends to sit deep to protect the area around SAHLAN.

The midfield works as a central trio to control the engine room. IRSAN plays as the single pivot to shield the back three and intercept loose balls. Beside him, IZAL and ADI operate as the two central midfielders. IZAL and ADI must work hard to track back and cover for the wing backs when they push forward. They also look to win the ball and immediately find the attackers to break the lines. This midfield group connects the defense to the front two by moving the ball quickly through the center.

Atlético employs two forwards to lead the line. IDAN and COACH operate as the two strikers. These two attackers work together to hold up the ball and allow the midfield to move up the pitch. IDAN and COACH often press the opposition defenders to force mistakes. When the team wins the ball, the wing backs BUDIN and MADAN provide the width to stretch the defense, while the strikers look to cut inside or run into the channels.

One major advantage of this lineup is the ability to remain compact when defending in a low block. With five defenders and three midfielders, Atlético makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. Another strength is the speed of transition when BUDIN or MADAN find space to overlap. This creates wide overloads that can catch a tired defense off guard.
