Atlético Football Formation
Starting Lineup
SAHLAN · SAFWAN · FAUZAN · ADI · IZAL · IDAN · MADAN · BUDIN · ICAN · IRSAN · COACHFocusing on a direct and hard to break style of play, Atlético utilizes a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to play with a compact low block and quick transitions to catch opponents out of position. The team looks to defend deep and use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition during the attacking phase.
Budin stands between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a central trio where Safwan acts as the main anchor while Fauzan and Sahlan provide cover on either side. To manage the width, Madan and Ican operate as wing backs who must track back to help the defense and push up to provide crosses. The defenders focus on holding a solid line and winning aerial duels to keep the opposition away from the goal.
The midfield relies on a double pivot consisting of Izal and Irsan. These two players sit in front of the back five to intercept passes and shield the central defenders. Izal and Irsan must work hard to cover large areas of the pitch and break the line with vertical passes when they win the ball. They act as the link that moves the ball from the defensive third into the attacking third.
In the final third, Atlético uses three attackers to stretch the play. Adi and Coach play as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create goal scoring chances, while Idan acts as the lone striker. Idan is tasked to hold up the ball and allow the wingers to join the attack. When defending, the front three press the opposition back line to force long balls and maintain a high level of compactness.
One major advantage for Atlético is the ability to create wide overloads when Madan and Ican push forward to join the wingers. This creates situations where the opposition full backs are outnumbered. Another strength is the compactness when defending, as the five defenders and two midfielders make it very difficult for teams to play through the middle. The speed of transition from a deep block to a wide attack allows for rapid counter attacks.
This formation is a defensive powerhouse designed to frustrate teams that prefer heavy possession. It is best suited for matches against superior technical sides where sitting deep and hitting on the break is the most effective way to win.
