Starting Lineup

Defensive GK · Build Up · Destroyer · Defensive Full-Back · Attacking Full-Back · Hole Player · Destroyer · Anchor Man · Hole Player · Creative Playmaker · Fox in the Box

Selangor relies on a high press and direct verticality through a 4-3-3. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly transition into attacking positions. By forcing opponents into mistakes, the team looks to control the tempo through aggressive ball recovery rather than slow build up play.

The defensive unit starts with the Defensive GK, who stays deep to protect the goal area. In front of him, the back four functions as a unit that can step up to catch opponents offside. The Destroyer on the right side of the center back pairing provides physical presence to tackle attackers, while the Build Up player on the left focuses on passing to start attacks. On the flanks, the Defensive Full-Back holds his position to prevent crosses, whereas the Attacking Full-Back pushes high to provide width.

In the middle of the pitch, Selangor uses a midfield trio that balances protection and creativity. The Anchor Man sits in front of the defense to intercept passes and hold the center. Beside him, the Destroyer at RCM works to press opponents and break up play. This allows the Creative Playmaker to operate in the pocket between the lines, connecting the midfield to the front three with precise passing.

The attack is built around three dangerous forwards that move in unison. The Fox in the Box stays central to find space in the penalty area and finish chances. To his sides, the two Hole Players act as inverted wingers who cut inside from the flanks. These wide players make runs into the box to support the striker, while their movement creates space for the Attacking Full-Back to overlap and cross.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. When the forwards press, the midfield trio steps up to compress the space, making it hard for the opposition to play out from the back. Another strength is the wide overloads created when the Hole Players cut inside, leaving the flanks open for the full backs to push forward and deliver crosses.

This 4-3-3 formation provides Selangor with a balanced way to transition from a compact defense to a lethal attack. It is a setup best suited for facing teams that struggle to play under heavy pressure or those that leave space behind their midfield.
