This lineup aims to overwhelm the opposition in the final third by committing many players forward to win the ball back quickly. The goal is to use the width of the pitch to stretch the defensive line and create gaps through direct play.
Kartevan acts as the last line of defense behind a flat back four. Nicolaev and Siuncu operate as the central pair to block crosses and win aerial duels in the box. Sczyanek and Rafiu act as wide defenders who must track back frequently to prevent crosses from the flanks. The defensive unit works together to maintain a high line, stepping up to intercept passes before the opponent can settle.
The midfield relies on a double pivot to maintain control. Jovane Kì and Romanov occupy the central areas to shield the back four and break the lines with forward passes. These two players must work hard to cover the space left behind when the attackers press. They connect the defense to the front line by recycling possession or playing quick vertical balls to the forwards.
FCSB uses four attackers to pin the opposition defense deep. Élder and Sung-Cho play as wide wingers to stretch the play, while Nicolaescu and M.Martins act as a dual strike force. This front line is designed to press the opposition defenders immediately upon losing the ball. Nicolaescu and M.Martins work to hold up the ball or run into channels to create space for the wingers to cut inside.
One major advantage is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs push forward to support the wingers. Another strength is the heavy pressure exerted by the four attackers, which can force turnovers in dangerous areas. The formation also allows for quick transitions where the team can move from a defensive block to a full attacking force in seconds.
This 4-2-4 formation is built for aggressive, high intensity football. It is best suited for games where the team needs to chase a goal or exploit a defensively weak opponent.
