Because there are no full backs in this formation, Timo and Mer must stay compact and cover a massive amount of ground to prevent runners from getting behind them. They act as the final barrier, often needing to step up to intercept long balls or track runners before they reach the goal.

The midfield is the engine room for FC Utrecht, utilizing a massive six man block. Quim and Maarten act as a double pivot to shield the two defenders, while Gilles and Evert provide the links between the deep layers and the attack. Dali operates alongside them to ensure the center remains packed. Sjors plays as an attacking midfielder, pushing higher to find pockets of space between the opposition lines. This massive group works to pass, shift, and block passing lanes to ensure the ball stays within their control.

The attacking unit relies on two forwards, Bas and Panos, to lead the line. They operate as a pair of strikers who must hold up the ball to allow the six midfielders to push up the pitch. Bas and Panos press the opposition defenders to force mistakes, often working together to pin the backline deep.
