Starting Lineup
OBE · OXY · PR · XOM · CVX · AR · GPOR · PBRa · CVE · SM · APAA high press and rapid transition game defines this team, which operates within a 4-3-3 formation. The lineup is built to squeeze the space high up the pitch and win the ball back quickly to catch opponents out of position. By using wide attackers and a central striker, the team aims to stretch the defence and create chances through quick vertical movements.
OXY sits between the posts to start the build up play from the back. The defensive unit works as a flat back four where AR acts as the right back to provide width while PR plays as the left back. In the middle of the defence, CVX and XOM act as the central defenders, with CVX providing cover while XOM attempts to step up to intercept passes. This back line works to maintain a high line to keep the team compact.
The midfield functions as a three man midfield with a carrier and creative links. SM operates in the right central midfield role to drive forward with the ball and carry it through the middle. CVE works in the left central midfield position to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while APA holds a more central role to shield the defence and recycle possession. This trio works to press in a mid-block when the opposition tries to build from the back.
In the attacking phase, the team uses three attackers across the front. OBE plays as a pressing centre-forward to lead the line and fight for the ball against the opposition centre-backs. On the flanks, GPOR plays as a left winger who looks to cut inside, while PBRa operates on the right wing to hug the touchline and deliver crosses. This front line is designed to create runs in behind and isolate wide players in one on one situations.
The primary tactical advantages of this formation are the ability to press high in coordinated waves and the speed of transition once the ball is won. By having SM and CVE move forward, the team can create wide overloads when the full backs overlap. The presence of GPOR and PBRa also allows the team to stretch the defence and find gaps in the half spaces.
This 4-3-3 formation relies on high intensity to dominate the ball and pin the opposition back. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
