Starting Lineup
GK · RB · CB · CB · LB · DM · AM · AM · LW · RW · STA high press and vertical attacking style defines this lineup using a 4-3-3. The team seeks to win the ball back high up the pitch and move toward the goal with speed. This formation is built to control the game through aggressive pressing and quick transitions to catch the opposition out of position.
The goalkeeper acts as the first point of distribution when building from the back. A flat back four provides the foundation for the defensive unit. The RB and LB are expected to push up to support the attack, while the RCB and LCB hold a high line to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch. These central defenders must be ready to step up and intercept long balls or cover for the wide defenders when they move forward.
In the middle of the pitch, the team utilizes a single pivot flanked by two advanced midfielders. The DM sits in front of the back four to shield the defence and recycle possession. The LCM and RCM act as the engine, looking to carry the ball forward and drive into the half spaces. These two players connect the defensive line to the front three by playing through the lines and making runs into the box to support the striker.
The attacking unit consists of three players working in combination. The LW and RW act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring opportunities, while the ST operates as a central presence to pin the last defender. This front line is designed to press the opposition back line intensely to force a long ball. By spreading wide with the wingers, the team creates space for the LCM and RCM to arrive late into the box and exploit gaps in the defensive block.
This 4-3-3 offers several tactical advantages for the team. The presence of a single pivot allows for numerical superiority in the middle when the two attacking midfielders push high. The team can also create wide overloads by using the RB and LB to overlap the winger. This movement stretches the defence and opens up channels for the ST to find the feet of the striker or run in behind.
This formation relies on intense pressing and rapid verticality to dominate games. It is best suited for facing teams that struggle to play out from the back or teams that leave large spaces behind their midfield.
