Alaba, Matthäus, and Lahm form a defensive trio that sits deep to shield the two central defenders and intercept passes. Ahead of them, Breitner, Rummenigge, and Ballack act as the creative engines. Breitner and Rummenigge push high to break the line with forward runs, while Ballack works to connect the deep players to the front line. This massive midfield block ensures the team always has passing options and can quickly shift to cover any space.

Up front, the team employs two strikers to finish the moves created by the midfield. Lewandowski operates as a lone striker who can hold up the ball and bring others into play, using his clinical finishing and movement to threaten the box. Beside him, G. Müller works as a second striker, finding space in tight areas and clinical in front of goal. These two forwards press the opposition back line constantly to force mistakes.

One major advantage of this formation is the massive numerical superiority in the center of the pitch, making it nearly impossible for opponents to keep the ball. The six players in midfield can also create wide overloads by shifting laterally to support the attack.
