Starting Lineup

Mike (Belgium) · Santy (Cape Verde Islands) · Gonza (Bolivia) · Rolo (Bulgaria) · Gasty (Chile) · Edu (Canada) · Matu (Cameroon) · Facu (Germany) · Amigo de Mike (Italy) · PiPo (Israel) · Pety (Morocco)

Focusing on high pressing and quick transitions, this lineup uses a 2-5-3 formation to overwhelm opponents. The team aims to win the ball back high up the pitch and move forward with pace. By committing many players to the attacking third, this system seeks to create chaos in the opposition defensive line through sheer numbers.

Mike operates between the posts to organize the backline. The defensive unit is minimal, consisting of only two central defenders, Pety and Amigo de Mike, who must stay alert to cover large amounts of space. They often play a high line to squeeze the space and compress the midfield. Pety and Amigo de Mike need to be dominant in the air and quick to intercept any long balls played over the top. They must hold the line carefully to avoid being caught out when the team pushes forward.

The midfield is the engine room of this formation, utilizing a five man line to dominate the center and the half spaces. Facu acts as the central anchor to shield the two defenders and recycle possession. On either side, Gonza and PiPo operate as driving midfielders who carry the ball forward into the attacking third. Santy and Gasty play as attacking midfielders in the half spaces, looking to find pockets of space between the lines. This group of five works to press in pairs to trigger a press and win the ball back quickly.

Up front, the team uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Matu acts as the lone striker, tasked to find the feet of the striker and hold up the ball for others. On the flanks, Rolo and Edu play as wide wingers who hug the touchline to stretch the defence. They look to get to the byline and deliver early crosses or cut it back for players arriving late into the box. This front three works to press the opposition back line, forcing them into errors and long balls.

This formation offers significant advantages in terms of numerical superiority in the middle of the park. The presence of Santy and Gasty alongside the central trio allows the team to overload the opposition. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the three attackers and the two attacking midfielders to suffocate the opponent. This creates many opportunities to break quickly once possession is regained.

The 2-5-3 is a high risk, high reward formation built for aggressive, vertical football. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out from the back under heavy pressure.
