Osasuna looks to control space and play with high intensity through a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and then strike quickly through vertical passes when winning the ball back. The team focuses on being hard to break down while maintaining a compact block that makes it difficult for opponents to play through the middle.

Sergio Herrera stays between the posts to command the penalty area. The back line consists of three central defenders with Catena acting as the anchor in the middle to cover space. Boyomo and Osambela sit on either side of him, using their aerial strength to clear crosses and block shots. On the flanks, Bretones and Moncayola operate as wing backs who must track back to defend the wide areas before pushing up to provide width in the final third.

The midfield operates as a three man unit to protect the central zone. Torró sits in the center to shield the defense and disrupt the opposition rhythm. To his right, Víctor M. works to drive the ball forward, while Moi Gómez links the play on the left. This group works to stay close together to ensure no gaps open up between the lines, helping the team shift side to side as a single block.

In the attacking third, Osasuna uses two forwards to pressure the opposing center backs. Budimir acts as the target man to hold up the ball and win aerial duels, providing a focal point for long balls. Rubén García plays slightly deeper or moves into channels to create space, often looking to cut inside and find shooting lanes. They press the opposition back line to force mistakes and turn the game into a quick transition.

One major advantage for Osasuna is the ability to create wide overloads when Bretones and Moncayola push up to support the wingers. The formation also provides great compactness when defending, as the three midfielders and five defenders can quickly congest the middle to prevent through balls. This makes it very hard for teams to find space between the lines once the defensive block is set.

This 5-3-2 formation provides a very solid foundation for teams that want to defend deep and exploit spaces on the break. It is best suited for matches against possession heavy teams that struggle to break down low blocks.
