Honvéd Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Rácz · Hangya · Csontos · Baki · Kesztyűs · Sigér · Szamosi · Földi · Gyurcsó · Pinte · NyersHonvéd focuses on a direct and aggressive style of play built around a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup seeks to control the central areas of the pitch while using the width of the pitch to overwhelm opponents through heavy pressing. The team works to win the ball back quickly in the middle third to launch immediate attacks before the opposition can settle.
Rácz stays between the posts to organize the defensive line from the back. The defense consists of a central trio where Baki sits in the middle to command the area and mark the central striker. Hangya and Csontos operate as the wide center backs, tasked to cover the space behind the midfield and step up to intercept passes. This back three maintains a high line to keep the distance between the defensive unit and the midfield compact.
The midfield works as a central engine to dominate the center of the park. Kesztyűs acts as the single pivot to shield the back three and break up play. Ahead of him, Sigér and Szamosi operate in the central channels to drive forward and connect the defense to the attackers. Gyurcsó and Földi push higher up the pitch from the attacking midfield roles to act almost as wide midfielders, providing the necessary width to stretch the opposing defense.
In the attacking third, Honvéd utilizes two forwards to pin the opposition defenders back. Pinte and Nyers operate as the strike duo, with Nyers often looking to hold up the ball while Pinte makes runs into the channels. They press the opposing center backs to force mistakes and create turnovers. The movement from Gyurcsó and Földi creates passing lanes for the strikers to exploit, allowing the team to play vertically through the center or out wide.
One major strength for Honvéd is the numerical superiority in the central midfield corridor. By having Kesztyűs, Sigér, and Szamosi occupy the center, they can easily win second balls and control the tempo. Another advantage is the ability to create overloads in the half spaces when Gyurcsó and Földi push forward, forcing opposing wing backs to track back and leaving gaps behind them. This allows the strikers to find space in the box during transitions.
This 3-5-2 formation provides a heavy central presence and high pressing capability. It is best suited for matches against teams that play with a wide midfield or those that struggle to cope with physical central midfielders.
