ZTE Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Gundel-Takács · Borges · Calderon · Várkonyi · Király · Bakti · Csonka · Lima · João Viktor · Skribek · KlauszZTE focuses on high intensity pressing and quick transitions through a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the pitch by squeezing the opposition and using wide areas to stretch the game. The intent is to win the ball back high up the pitch and move it forward with vertical passes to catch defenders out of position.
Gundel-Takács sits between the posts to act as the last line of defense. The back three consists of Várkonyi in the center with Calderon and Borges on either side. Várkonyi holds the central space while Calderon and Borges act as the wider pillars of the defensive block. When the team pushes up, these defenders must step up to maintain a high line, ensuring the unit stays compact and prevents the opponent from playing through the middle.
The midfield functions with a central duo supported by two wide players. Bakti and Csonka occupy the central spaces to control the tempo and break the lines with their passing. Bakti works to drive the play forward while Csonka looks to intercept and cover space in front of the defense. On the flanks, Király and Klausz act as wing backs, providing width and tracking back to help the back three when the team loses possession.
ZTE uses three attackers to pin the opposition defense back. Skribek leads the line as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and make runs into the channels. João Viktor and Lima operate as wide attackers, frequently cutting inside to create goalscoring chances or opening up the pitch for the wing backs. This front line must press in coordination to force turnovers near the opponent's goal.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads. When Király and Klausz overlap, they force the opposing wingers to drop deep, which provides more space for João Viktor and Lima to work in the half spaces. Another strength is the numerical superiority in the middle when Bakti and Csonka combine with the front three to press in waves. This creates constant pressure and makes it difficult for opponents to build play from the back.
This 3-4-3 formation relies on high energy and verticality to overwhelm the opposition. It is most effective against teams that play a slow build up and struggle to manage wide areas under pressure.
