Starting Lineup

Boca seeks to dominate through aggressive verticality and heavy numbers in the attacking third. This high risk lineup uses a 2-4-4 formation to force the opposition back into their own half. The goal is to win the ball high and quickly penetrate the defensive lines with constant pressure.

The goalkeeper 1 acts as the last line of defense when the team pushes forward. In front of him, a central defensive duo consisting of 5 and 3 must hold a high line to compress the pitch. Since there are no full backs, 5 and 3 must be dominant in the air and quick to cover ground when the ball is switched. This defensive unit relies on covering large spaces and winning individual duels to prevent long balls from bypassing the press.

The midfield engine operates as a four man unit to control the center of the pitch. The single pivot 10 sits deep to shield the two central defenders and break the lines with long passes. On either side, 7 and 4 work as central midfielders to drive forward and support the attack. The attacking midfielder 6 operates in the pockets of space between the opposition midfield and defense to create chances. This group must stay compact to ensure they do not leave the two defenders too exposed during transitions.

Boca utilizes a powerful front line of four attackers to stretch the opposition. The wide players 11 and 9 stay near the touchlines to provide width and pull defenders out of position. In the center, the two forwards 2 and 8 act as a strike partnership to occupy the central defenders. These players are expected to press intensely and hold up the ball to allow the midfield to push up. The movements of 2 and 8 are designed to create chaos and allow 11 and 9 to cut inside.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through overwhelming numbers in the final third. By using four attackers and an attacking midfielder, Boca can create wide overloads and central congestion. The ability to press high in coordinated waves makes it difficult for opponents to build play from the back. Additionally, the presence of 2 and 8 allows the team to isolate wide players in one on one situations during quick transitions.
