Starting Lineup

Boca seeks to dominate games through heavy numbers in the final third, playing a highly vertical brand of football. This aggressive 2-4-4 formation focuses on overwhelming the opposition with constant pressure and quick transitions. The lineup is built to hunt the ball high up the pitch and force errors in the opponent's defensive zone.

The defensive unit remains quite thin, relying on 1 to command the area from the goal line. In front of him, 5 and 3 form a narrow central pair of defenders. These two central defenders must be ready to step up into space or drop deep to cover wide areas when the rest of the team pushes forward. Because there is no traditional back four, 5 and 3 have to be physically dominant and very fast to track runners in behind.

In the middle of the pitch, a double pivot provides the core connection between the defense and the attack. 10 and 7 work as the defensive anchors, tasked to sit deep, intercept passes, and shield the two central defenders. Moving ahead of them, 6 and 8 operate in the half spaces to drive the ball forward and link the play. 6 and 8 must press hard to stop the opposition from building from the back, acting as the engine that moves the ball into the attacking zones.

The attacking front line is incredibly crowded to ensure constant presence in the box. Two central forwards, 2 and 4, act as the primary goal threats, working to hold up the ball or run into channels. They are flanked by 9 on the right wing and 11 on the left wing, who provide width and look to cut inside. This four man attack is designed to press the opposition defenders relentlessly, making it difficult for them to find a clean pass.

Boca uses this formation to create massive numerical superiority in the attacking third. The sheer volume of players forward allows for rapid waves of pressure that can catch a defense off guard. By using 6 and 8 to push between the lines, the team can quickly switch play or find space between the opponent's midfield and defense. This setup also creates many one on one situations for 9 and 11 when they receive the ball out wide.

This 2-4-4 lineup is an all out attacking gamble intended to break down low blocks through sheer numbers. It is best suited for situations where Boca needs to chase a goal or faces an opponent that struggles to defend against high pressure.
