A heavy focus on directness and rapid transitions defines this side, which operates in a 4-4-2 formation. The lineup is built to absorb pressure and then hit the opposition quickly when they lose control. This team relies on verticality to move the ball from the back line to the two forwards as fast as possible.
DIBBA acts as the last line of defense in goal. Ahead of him, a flat back four stays compact to deny space between the lines. MESSINA and ROSSI form the central pair, with ROSSI acting as the left centre back and MESSINA as the right centre back. They focus on clearing the lines and winning headers to stop long balls. On the flanks, CALVANO and MESSINA provide width, though they must track back quickly to maintain a narrow defensive block when the opponent has the ball.
The midfield is organized in two lines of four to squeeze the space in the center. TOMAINO sits in the middle to connect the defense to the attack and shield the back four. MAURO and HARDES operate as the wide midfielders, tasked with tracking back to help the full backs and then driving forward to support the attack. DIAW plays in the hole behind the strikers, looking to pick up the second ball or find the forwards with quick passes. This unit works to press in a mid-block, forcing the opponent to play long.
The attack features two forwards working in a partnership. AMAYA plays as the left striker while ARAMBURU operates as the right striker. They often work to pin the last defender and create space for DIAW to arrive late into the box. The duo uses link up play to hold up the ball, allowing the midfielders to push forward. When attacking in transition, they look to run in behind the defense to exploit high lines.
This formation offers a significant advantage through its compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to play through the middle. Another strength is the ability to create quick counter attacks at pace. By having DIAW between the lines, the team can quickly move the ball to the strikers to isolate defenders in one on one situations.
The team relies on a direct style that prioritizes quick vertical movements to catch opponents out of position. This setup is best suited for games against possession based teams that leave space behind their defense.
