Sagnol plays as the right back to provide width, while Lizarazu operates on the left to overlap and support the attack. The central pairing of Kuffour and R. Kovac remains solid, with Kuffour using his strength to block crosses and R. Kovac providing cover to sweep up loose balls.

The midfield relies on a single pivot to manage the center of the pitch. Demichelis sits in the holding role to shield the defense and intercept passes. Beside him, Hargreaves and Zé Roberto operate in the central spaces to drive the ball forward and link the back line to the attackers. Ballack plays in the right half space to use his passing range and long shots, while Pizarro occupies the left half space to help progress the play.

In the final third, the team relies on a lone striker to lead the line. Makaay works to hold up the ball and make runs behind the defense to catch opponents on the break. The four midfielders behind him must press high to prevent the opposition from building from the back. This movement creates space for Makaay to receive the ball in dangerous positions or for the wide midfielders to cut inside and shoot.

A major strength of this FC Bayern lineup is the ability to create numerical superiority in the central midfield area.
