Julio and Edgardo must work hard to track back and cover the spaces left by the attacking full backs. The attack is built around four dangerous forwards. Carlos and Luis operate as wide attackers on the flanks, while Nicolas and Emiliano lead the charge as two central forwards. Carlos and Luis look to cut inside to create shooting opportunities or cross the ball into the box. Nicolas and Emiliano work together to hold up the ball and harass the opposing defenders, forcing them into mistakes. The movement of these four is designed to pin the opponent's back line deep.

This formation offers significant advantages in terms of offensive pressure. Liverpool F.C. can create wide overloads by having Jorge or Luis Alberto overlap the wingers.
