Starting Lineup
Aidan (Amato) · Carlos (Rodriguez) · Azamat (Jaliboev) · Luke (Grebinar) · Bhav (Minhas) · Jon (Brown) · Efe (Kocak) · Jordan (Ponsar) · Noel (Silva) · Aden (Polnariov) · Nick (Pompei)Focusing on a direct and vertical style of play, the team operates in a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup is built to transition quickly from defense to attack, looking to exploit gaps between lines. The intent is to win the second ball and use speed to punish the opposition in transition.
Aidan acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit sits in a flat back four, where Carlos and Azamat occupy the central roles. Carlos focuses on covering the space behind the full backs, while Azamat acts as the more physical presence to win headers. Bhav and Luke provide width from the wide defensive positions. Bhav is tasked to push up and support the attack, while Luke stays closer to the central defenders to ensure the back line stays compact. The unit works to hold the line and move as a single block to squeeze the space in front of them.
The midfield operates with a double pivot to provide stability. Efe and Jon sit in front of the defense to shield the back four and deny the turn to opposition attackers. Efe acts as the primary ball carrier to progress the play, while Jon focuses on cutting off the passing lane to the opposition striker. Moving ahead of them, Noel and Jordan play as wide midfielders. Noel looks to cut inside into the half spaces to create chances, whereas Jordan stays wider to stretch the defense. This group connects the defensive unit to the front two, ensuring the team can recycle possession when needed.
The attack utilizes two forwards in a partnership to pressure the opposition back line. Aden plays as a lone striker who often tries to pin the last defender, while Nick operates as a second striker playing in the hole. They combine in tight spaces to link up play between the lines. Aden often tries to run in behind the defense to stretch the play, while Nick drops deep to receive on the half-turn and play a one-two with the midfielders. This front duo works to force a long ball from the opposition by pressing from the front.
This formation provides great compactness when defending in a mid-block. The team can use the width provided by Bhav and Luke to create wide overloads when they win the ball back high up the pitch. By having two banks of four, the unit remains difficult to break down through the middle.
This 4-4-2 lineup relies on quick transitions and strong work rates from the midfield. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
