Starting Lineup

Hajduk focuses on a high pressing and direct style of play using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm opponents in the final third and pin them back with intense pressure. The team looks to win the ball high up the pitch to catch the opposition out of position.

Ivušić guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back four consists of Hodak at right back and Hrgović at left back, while Šarlija and Mlačić form the central defensive pairing. Hodak and Hrgović are expected to push up the pitch to support the attack, leaving Šarlija and Mlačić to cover the wide spaces. The central defenders must stay alert to intercept through balls and remain dominant in the air during set pieces.

A double pivot controls the center of the park to provide a bridge between the defense and the attack. Krovinović and Pajaziti work together to hold the middle and protect the back four. Krovinović uses his passing range to switch play, while Pajaziti helps to shield the defense and press opponents in the middle third. This pair must work hard to track back when the team loses possession to prevent counter attacks.

The attacking unit is very aggressive with four players positioned high up the pitch. Rebić and Pukštas act as the two central forwards, tasked with pressing the opposition defenders and holding up the ball. Bamba operates on the right wing while Šego stays wide on the left. These wide players look to cut inside to create numbers in the box or cross the ball into the central area.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to create heavy pressure in the attacking third. Hajduk can use the wide positioning of Bamba and Šego to stretch the opposition defense, creating gaps in the middle for Rebić and Pukštas to exploit. The team also benefits from quick transitions where the four attackers can sprint forward immediately after the double pivot wins the ball.

The 4-2-4 lineup is a high risk, high reward system designed for heavy attacking pressure. It is best suited for games where Hajduk needs to break down a low block or overwhelm an opponent through sheer numbers in the box.
