Starting Lineup

Zanchi · Gobbo · Maffesoli · Isoa · Percassi · Pedretti · G. Ruiz · Mouisse · Leandri · Cakolli · Baldo

Atalanta aims to dominate through a heavy high press and verticality in a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup relies on aggressive ball recovery in the opposition half to launch quick attacks. By playing with a high line, the team forces opponents to play long or risk losing possession in dangerous areas.

Zanchi stands between the posts to command the area and manage the back line. The defensive unit operates with three central defenders including Maffesoli, Gobbo, and Isoa. Maffesoli acts as the central anchor while Gobbo and Isoa cover the wider spaces to prevent crosses. These players must step up to intercept passes and track runners, ensuring the back three stays compact when the team sits deep or pushes forward.

The midfield works as a dense block to control the center of the pitch. Pedretti and G. Ruiz operate in the central areas to hold the ball and break the line with forward passes. Mouisse provides extra coverage in the middle to help the team shift from side to side. On the flanks, Percassi and Leandri act as wing backs who cover the entire length of the pitch. They must track back to help the defense and push high to provide width during attacks.

At the front, the team utilizes two forwards to pin the opposition defenders. Baldo and Cakolli work in tandem to press the ball and force mistakes from the back. The attacking movement is designed to create space for the midfielders to run into. Baldo often plays as a mobile striker to pull defenders out of position while Cakolli looks to find pockets of space between the lines.

One major strength of Atalanta is the ability to create wide overloads when Percassi and Leandri push forward to support the attack. This causes the opposition to stretch, leaving gaps for the central midfielders to exploit. The formation also allows for high pressing in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to build play from the back.

This 3-5-2 formation is built for high intensity and aggressive ball hunting. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play under pressure or those that defend in a narrow low block.
