Clermont relies on a direct and vertical style of play through a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to press high and move the ball quickly toward the final third. The goal is to win the ball in advanced areas and use quick transitions to catch the opposition before they can sit deep.

MESLIER starts between the posts to oversee the defensive unit. The back line functions as a flat back four with COUSIN and VOISIN acting as the central defenders. COUSIN and VOISIN must stay compact to protect the central zone while maintaining a high line to squeeze the pitch. On the flanks, MAURY and PELTIER act as full backs who must track back to cover wide areas but also push up to provide width. The defensive unit works to shift together to intercept passes and block runs.

The midfield acts as a three man unit to connect the defense and attack. LEBEAU operates as an attacking midfielder to drive the team forward and break the line with forward runs. In the central roles, ROSIER and BONNEAU provide the engine to control the middle of the pitch. ROSIER and BONNEAU must hold their positions to shield the defense while also looking to win second balls. This midfield group focuses on quick passing to move from a defensive block into an attacking phase.

The attacking front line uses three players to stretch the opponent. ROBIN plays as the lone striker and must hold up the ball to bring others into play. PINTOR and DIOP act as wide attackers on the left and right flanks. PINTOR and DIOP look to cut inside or use their pace to run behind the defensive line. These three forwards press the opposition defenders heavily to force mistakes high up the pitch.

Clermont finds success by creating wide overloads when the full backs overlap the wingers. The team can also use their ability to press high in coordinated waves to win the ball in dangerous positions. By using the speed of transition, the team can isolate wide players in one on one situations very quickly.

This 4-3-3 formation focuses on high intensity and quick verticality. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high defensive line or struggle to manage pressure in their own half.
