Hajduk Football Formation
Starting Lineup
BEARA · MUŽINIĆ · BULJAN · HOLCER · PERUZOVIĆ · ŠURJAK · GUDELJ · JERKOVIĆ · VUKAS · ŽUNGUL · ZL. VUJOVIĆHajduk aims to control the game through a direct and balanced style of play within a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup is built to maintain balance between defensive stability and verticality. By using two banks of four, the team can sit deep or push up to squeeze the space between the lines. The intention is to win the ball and move quickly toward the opposition goal.
The defense starts with BEARA in goal, acting as the last line of protection. The back four consists of BULJAN at right back and ŠURJAK at left back, who both need to track back and cover wide areas. In the center, PERUVIĆ and HOLCER form a central pair tasked with marking attackers and winning aerial duels. This defensive unit works together to maintain a compact block, making it difficult for opponents to pass through the middle.
The midfield relies on a central core to control the tempo and break the lines. MUŽINIĆ sits in front of the defense as a single pivot to shield the back four and intercept passes. Beside him, JERKOVIĆ and GUDELJ operate as two central midfielders who drive the ball forward and connect the defense to the attack. VUKAS plays in the attacking midfield role, looking to find pockets of space and slide through balls to the forwards.
Up front, the attacking structure uses two strikers to pressure the opposition defense. ZL. VUJOVIĆ and ŽUNGUL lead the line, working together to hold up the ball and create space. The two forwards are expected to press high to force mistakes from the defenders. They use their movement to pull center backs out of position, allowing the midfielders like VUKAS to join the attack and create overloads in the final third.
One major advantage for Hajduk is the ability to create numerical superiority in the central areas when VUKAS pushes forward into the half spaces. The team also benefits from the speed of transition, as the short distance between the midfield and the two strikers allows for quick counter attacks. If the full backs BULJAN and ŠURJAK overlap, they can also create wide overloads that force the opposing defense to shift and leave gaps in the middle.
This 4-4-2 formation provides a solid foundation for a team that wants to be hard to beat while remaining dangerous on the break. It is best suited for matches against teams that play with a high line or leave large spaces behind their midfield.
