Starting Lineup

Climson · Ameer · Justin · Kugan · Tony · Sam · Dilshad · Ronn · Aaron · Benji · Geo

A focus on high intensity pressing and rapid verticality defines this lineup, which operates within a 2-5-3 formation. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and hit in behind on the transition before the opposition can settle. This aggressive stance requires every player to move as a single unit to maintain enough coverage when the initial press is bypassed.

Climson acts as the last line of defense behind a very thin back line. Tony and Kugan operate as the only two central defenders, meaning they must be ready to defend large amounts of space. These two central defenders often have to step up to intercept passes or cover wide areas when the midfield is stretched. Because there are only two players in the central defensive zone, they must hold the line and communicate constantly to avoid being caught out by long balls.

The midfield unit is the engine room of this formation, utilizing a five man line to control the center and the flanks. Sam and Dilshad work as a central pairing to control the middle, with Sam acting to shield the two defenders while Dilshad looks to carry the ball forward. Benji plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space between the lines. On the edges, Ameer and Justin provide the necessary width, with Ameer operating as a left midfielder and Justin as a right midfielder. This group must work together to squeeze the space and ensure they do not get bypassed too easily.

The attacking front three is designed to pin the last defender and stretch the opposition. Aaron operates as a lone striker, acting as a pressing centre-forward to force the opposition into mistakes. On the wings, Geo and Ronn act as wide wingers who stay high to provide width. Geo and Ronn are expected to cut inside to create central overloads or stay wide to receive long balls. This front line aims to create runs in behind and isolate defenders in one on one situations during quick transitions.

One major advantage of this 2-5-3 formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the attacking third. By pushing Ameer, Justin, and Benji high, the team can overwhelm a back four. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, with the front three and the attacking midfielders triggering a press to win it back high up the pitch. This constant pressure makes it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back.

This lineup is built for a high risk, high reward style of football that prioritizes winning the ball in advanced areas. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play under pressure and rely heavily on long balls.
