Starting Lineup

Darshan · Okram · Martin · Kugan · Nathan · Akshay · Sam · Sunil · Benji · Chitaranjan · Ronn

Seeking to control the ball and pin the opposition back, this lineup utilizes a 4-3-3. The team focuses on high pressing and quick ball movement to break down defensive lines. This formation is built to play a proactive game where the players try to win it back high up the pitch and use wide areas to stretch the defence.

Darshan plays between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit operates as a flat back four to maintain compactness. Nathan acts as the left back to provide width, while Okram functions as the right back. In the center, Martin and Kugan form the central defensive pair, tasked with holding the line and winning the second ball. Martin and Kugan must communicate to set the offside trap and cover for each other when the full backs push forward.

The midfield functions with a three-man midfield with a carrier. Akshay occupies the left central midfield role to link the defence and attack, while Sam operates on the right to drive forward with the ball. Chitaranjan plays as the attacking ten behind the striker to find the feet of the striker and pull defenders out of position. Akshay and Sam work to compress the midfield and ensure they do not get bypassed during transitions.

In the attacking phase, the team employs three attackers across the front. Benji acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and lead the press from the front. Sunil plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside, while Ronn operates on the right to stretch the play. The movement of Sunil and Ronn is designed to create cutbacks from the byline and allow Benji to attack the near post or far post during crosses.

One major advantage of this lineup is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By using Chitaranjan to press the opponent's holding player, the team can force a long ball. Another strength is the wide overloads created when Nathan and Okram overlap the winger to create two on one situations. These combinations allow the team to progress through the thirds with speed and purpose.

This 4-3-3 focuses on aggressive ball winning and rapid offensive movements. It is best suited for games against teams that play a slow build up and struggle to handle high intensity pressure.
