Starting Lineup
1.PINTO · MARCELO · CARLOS · MARQUINHOS · CDS · ?????? · NECO · ????????? · BARBOSA · RUSO · ESTRADAA high press and rapid verticality define this lineup. The team relies on a 3-5-2 formation to dominate the middle of the pitch and overwhelm opponents during transitions. This system is built to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly move it toward the attacking duo to catch the opposition out of position.
Pinto guards the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of Marquinhos, Carlos, and Marcelo. Marquinhos acts as the right center back to provide cover and strength, while Carlos holds the center to win the header and command the area. Marcelo plays as the left center back, ready to step into midfield when the team plays out from the back. This defensive unit works to keep the lines tight and squeeze the space between the defenders and the midfield.
The midfield relies on a five man unit to control the tempo and transition. Barbosa operates as the attacking ten behind the strikers to connect the lines and find the feet of the striker. In the central areas, Neco and the RCM work to control the center, with Neco looking to drive forward with the ball while the other midfielder helps to shield the defense. On the flanks, CDS and the RM act as wide midfielders who provide width and ability to track back when the team loses possession. This group aims to win the second ball and progress through the thirds.
The attacking structure features two forwards in a partnership. Estrada and Ruso lead the line, acting as a pressing center forward duo to force the opposition back line into mistakes. Estrada works to hold up the ball and link up play between the lines, allowing Ruso to make runs in behind. The team looks to use the wide midfielders to stretch the defense before delivering early crosses into the box. When the team breaks quickly, the forwards look to split the defense with a through ball or exploit the space created by the wide players.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in midfield. By using five players in the center, the team can often overwhelm a standard four man midfield. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, with Barbosa and the two strikers triggering the press from the front. This puts immense pressure on the opponent to play long balls, which the back three can then intercept.
This 3-5-2 formation relies on a high press and rapid transitions to unsettle the opposition. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back and leave space behind their defensive line.
