Seattle plays a direct, counter attacking brand of football using a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup aims to absorb pressure before launching quick transitions to catch the opponent out of position. The team focuses on compactness and verticality to move the ball from defense to attack in as few passes as possible.

Goalie sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. A flat back four consisting of Left Back, Center Back, Sweeper, and Right Back keeps the team compact when sitting deep. The Sweeper acts as a ball playing defender to help start attacks, while the Center Back provides aerial strength and cover. Left Back and Right Back must track back to help the defense but also push up to provide width when the team wins the ball back.

The midfield works in a diamond configuration to control the central zones. CDM sits in front of the back four to shield the defense and intercept passes. To his sides, Left Wing and Right Wing occupy the central midfield areas to drive forward and connect the lines. The CAM operates in the hole to create chances and find the forwards with through balls. This midfield unit must shift together to close down space and prevent the opposition from playing through the middle.

The attacking front consists of two forwards, LS and RS, who operate as a pair. These players work to press the opposition defenders and force mistakes high up the pitch. LS and RS often pull defenders out of position by making runs behind the line or dropping deep to hold up the ball. The presence of two strikers allows Seattle to occupy both central defenders, creating more room for the CAM to operate.

One major strength of this Seattle lineup is the ability to press high in coordinated waves when the ball enters the final third. The team can also create wide overloads if the wingers push higher to support the forwards. Another advantage is the speed of transition, as the team can quickly switch play from one side to the other to find an isolated winger.
