Starting Lineup

Malagon · Edson · Johan · Reyes · Mateo · Kevin · Erik Lira / (Obed Vargas) · Gil mora · Fidalgo/ (Marcel Ruiz) · Santi · Raul

Prioritizing heavy central congestion and midfield control, Mexico utilizes a 2-6-2 formation. This lineup focuses on dominating the center of the pitch to suffocate opponents through a massive concentration of players in the middle third. The goal is to win the ball early in the center and use a dense block of midfielders to drive play forward quickly.

Malagon stands between the posts to anchor the defense. The back line consists of only two central defenders, Johan and Reyes, who must remain extremely disciplined. They often sit deep to protect the space behind them while the massive midfield line pushes up. Johan and Reyes must be ready to cover large areas of ground if the ball is switched quickly to the flanks, as there are no wide defenders to provide cover.

The midfield is the engine of this Mexico lineup, organized as a massive bank of six players. Edson and Mateo sit in a double pivot to shield the two central defenders. In front of them, Kevin and Erik Lira occupy the central channels to break lines with their passing. Fidalgo pushes into the left half space to create chances, while Gil mora operates on the right to provide width and link with the attack. This massive group allows the team to control the tempo and win second balls easily.

The attack relies on two forwards, Santi and Raul, who work closely together in the final third. Instead of having wide wingers, the team relies on the movement of Fidalgo and Gil mora to supply the front line. Santi and Raul often drop deep to link with the midfield or push high to press the opposition defenders. This movement creates space for the midfielders to run into the box during transitions.

This formation offers a massive numerical superiority in the center of the pitch, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The dense midfield block allows for high pressing waves that can trap players in central areas. By crowding the center, the team can also switch play rapidly to exploit any space left on the wings.

This 2-6-2 formation is designed for total central dominance and heavy ball retention. It is best suited for games where the opponent struggles to play through a crowded midfield or when the team needs to overwhelm the center of the park.
