Hajduk Football Formation
Starting Lineup
PLETIKOSA (GABRIĆ) · JELIKIĆ (BUTOROVIĆ) · PRALIJA (STRINIĆ) · HLEVNJAK (MIŠE) · ŠALOV (RAČUNICA) · PREKAZI (REBIĆ) · BOGDANOVIĆ (D.ČOP) · JOVANIĆ (KRANJČAR) · J.ČOP (TIPURIĆ) · HIBIĆ (VEJIĆ) · BURSAČ (T.ERCEG)Hajduk focuses on being defensively solid and hitting teams on the break using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep, protect the central area, and use wide players to stretch the opposition. The team relies on heavy defensive work to absorb pressure before launching vertical passes to the front three.
PLETIKOSA guards the goal while the defensive unit maintains a low block. HLEVNJAK sits in the center of the back three to provide cover and organize the line. Alongside him, J.ČOP acts as a right-sided center back, while HIBIĆ operates on the left to hold the line. The width is provided by JELIKIĆ as the right wing back and PRALIJA as the left wing back. These wide defenders must push up to provide crosses but need to track back quickly to form a five man wall when Hajduk loses the ball.
The midfield operates with a double pivot to control the central zone. JOVANIĆ and ŠALOV work as the two central midfielders, tasked with sitting in front of the back three. They must intercept passes and shield the defenders. These two players link the back line to the attack by winning the ball and immediately looking for the wide attackers. They do not push too high, ensuring that the team remains compact in the middle of the pitch.
In the attacking phase, the team utilizes three forwards to create threats. BURSAČ plays as a lone striker to hold up the ball and bring others into play. He is supported by PREKAZI on the left wing and BOGDANOVIĆ on the right wing. These wide players often cut inside to create space for the wing backs to overlap. The forwards are expected to press the opposition back line to force mistakes and win the ball high up the pitch.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages, particularly in defending against teams that rely on heavy possession. Hajduk can achieve great compactness by sitting deep with a crowded central area. The presence of three central defenders and two central midfielders makes it very hard for opponents to break the lines. Additionally, the setup allows for rapid transitions, as the wide players can quickly exploit the space left behind by advancing full backs.
The 5-2-3 formation provides a sturdy defensive foundation that is hard to penetrate. This lineup is best suited for facing dominant teams that play with high lines or heavy possession.
