Starting Lineup

MEŠKOVIĆ KATALINIĆ · ĐONI · PERUZOVIĆ · ROŽIĆ · BOLJAT · ŽUNGUL · JOVANIĆ · OBLAK · ŠALOV · MUŽINIĆ · ĐORĐEVIĆ

Hajduk aims to play with a heavy high press and quick vertical transitions through a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup relies on intense pressure to win the ball high up the pitch and rapid movements to catch the opponent out of position. The team focuses on direct play and creating chances quickly once they regain possession in the attacking third.

MEŠKOVIĆ KATALINIĆ stands between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a central trio with MUŽINIĆ acting as the anchor in the middle while PERUZOVIĆ and ROŽIĆ cover the spaces to his left and right. They can step up to squeeze the space or drop deep to protect the goal. On the flanks, ĐONI and BOLJAT act as wing backs to provide width and support the attack. These wide defenders must track back to help the central three when the team sits deep.

The midfield relies on a double pivot consisting of ŠALOV and JOVANIĆ. These two players must cover large areas of the pitch to shield the defense and break up play. JOVANIĆ and ŠALOV work to win the ball and immediately look to find the attackers. They connect the defense to the front line by making short passes or long balls to break the lines. Their job is to keep the team compact and ensure the gap between the defense and the forwards stays small.

The attacking unit uses three players to stretch the opposition. OBLAK leads the line as a lone striker to hold up the ball and bring others into play. ĐORĐEVIĆ and ŽUNGUL operate as wide attackers who want to cut inside or run behind the defense to create goal scoring chances. These three forwards must press the opposition defenders relentlessly to force mistakes. The movements of ĐORĐEVIĆ and ŽUNGUL create space for OBLAK to operate in the box.

Hajduk possesses several tactical advantages with this formation. The wing backs ĐONI and BOLJAT can create wide overloads when they overlap the attackers. This forces the opposition to defend more area and often leaves gaps in the middle. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves using the three forwards and the two midfielders. This creates immense pressure in the opponent's half and leads to many turnovers.

This 5-2-3 formation provides a solid platform for a team that wants to be aggressive and direct. It is best suited for matches against opponents who play with a high line and can be punished on the break.
