Peruzzi guards the goal and organizes the back line. A flat back four consists of Torricelli on the right and Pessotto on the left. Montero and Ferrara act as the central defenders, where Montero provides aggressive tackling and aerial strength. Torricelli and Pessotto often push up to provide width, while the two central defenders stay deep to cover any runs behind them.

The midfield operates with a central block that covers a lot of ground. Deschamps sits in front of the defense as a single pivot to shield the back four and break up play. Di Livio and Jugović work the wide areas of the central midfield, helping to track back and press opponents. Zidane plays in the advanced role, using his incredible dribbling and vision to connect the midfield to the attack.

Juventus uses two strikers to pressure the opposition defense. Bokšić and Vieri lead the line, with Vieri often acting as a target man to hold up the ball. Bokšić makes runs into the channels to stretch the defense, while Zidane looks to find them with through balls. The two forwards press the opposition defenders high up the pitch to force mistakes.

This formation offers several tactical advantages. Having Zidane in the advanced role creates numerical superiority in the final third, allowing Juventus to dominate central areas. The midfield trio of Deschamps, Di Livio, and Jugović provides compactness when defending in a mid block. This setup also allows for quick transitions through the two strikers once the ball is recovered.
