Starting Lineup

SK Rapid focuses on a vertical style of play built to overload the middle of the pitch through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup aims to dominate central areas and drive the ball forward quickly once the ball is won. The goal is to control the tempo by packing the center, forcing opponents to play wide while the team looks to break the line with direct passes.

Gartler acts as the last line of defense behind a very narrow back two. Cvetkovic and Raux Yao must stay compact to protect the central zone, as they lack wide cover from traditional full backs. These two central defenders need to cover a lot of ground, stepping up to intercept passes and tracking runs that drift into the half spaces. The defensive unit relies on these two to stay strong in the air and maintain a high line to keep the team compact.

The midfield is the engine room for SK Rapid, using a five man unit to control the game. J. Auer and Bolla form a double pivot to shield the defense and win second balls. Moving ahead of them, Amane and Grgic occupy the left and right central roles to connect the defense to the attack. Gulliksen plays as the attacking ten, finding pockets of space between the lines to create chances. This midfield grouping allows the team to switch play quickly and maintain a high level of possession.

The attacking force uses three players to stretch the opposition. Antiste operates as a lone striker, using his presence to hold up the ball and bring others into play. On the flanks, Seidl and Wurmbrand act as wide attackers to provide width and stretch the opposing back line. These wingers look to cut inside or deliver crosses into the box, while the movement of the front three creates space for Gulliksen to push forward.

A major strength of this formation is the numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. By packing the center with five players, SK Rapid can easily win individual battles and dominate the ball. Another advantage is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three and the attacking midfielders to trap opponents in their own half. This creates quick transitions that catch the opposition out of position.
